“Anonymous” explores the fantasy of the anonymous male figure, the idealized image of the “straight man” who exists just outside of reach. The work depicts a strong, dominate male form with his identity intentionally concealed, creating a tension between physical presence and personal absence.

The piece was inspired by the idea of being “DL” (down low), hidden, and anonymous. There is something intriguing about the concept surrounding the closeted or discreet masculine man: someone who appears traditionally masculine, confident, and dominant, while keeping another part of himself concealed. In Anonymous, that tension becomes less about the individual and more about the fantasy constructed around him.

For many gay men, this “fantasy” can feel strangely familiar. The attraction is not simply to the figure himself, but to the mystery, secrecy, and possibility surrounding him. By removing the face, the figure becomes less of a specific person and more of a projection, an imagined version of masculinity shaped by desire, curiosity, and fantasy.

Anonymous examines how easily the unknown can become idealized, and how the absence of identity can sometimes make a fantasy feel even more powerful.
