SURRENDER

acrylic on canvas

31.25” W x 47” H

2026

“Surrender” is a piece about learning to be at ease in my own company - being alone, but not feeling lonely. It reflects a shift in perspective, where solitude became something grounding rather than something to resist.

The work depicts two hands intertwined, appearing as though they belong to two separate bodies. In reality, both hands are my own, composed to create that illusion. That detail is central to the meaning of the piece - it speaks to the idea that what we often seek externally can exist within ourselves.

As a self-portrait, it represents a moment where I began to understand that my sense of happiness and self-worth doesn’t have to come from outside validation. Instead, it can be created, held, and sustained on my own.

This piece marks a point in time where I started to see myself as existing independently - on my own terms, at my own pace, and in my own presence. Not in isolation, but in a way that feels steady, positive, and whole.
