PORCELAIN
acrylic on canvas
31.25” w x 47” h
2026
“porcelain” is based on a photograph I took of myself at a moment when I felt vulnerable, and unexpectedly strong because of it. for this piece I became my own subject. I wanted to look at myself the way I look at the men I paint, as something worth turning into art.
the pose is soft and relaxed, which isn’t how men are usually shown. the black square over the groin was an intentional choice. it lets me be open without showing everything, and it’s me deciding how much I want to share.
this work marks a real shift for me. I’m getting more comfortable being soft without feeling like I’m giving up strength, and being seen without feeling I have to reveal it all. it’s a self-portrait of where I am right now: somewhere between fragile and confident, private and open.
