FLEX

“Flex” isolates a single part of the body - the bicep. Often seen as a symbol of strength and attraction, it’s a feature that tends to draw attention and carry meaning beyond itself. This piece is a self-portrait but intentionally limited in what it reveals.
The decision to focus on this one area was personal. At the time the reference was taken, I wasn’t comfortable with my body as a whole. Cropping in allowed me to present only what I felt confident showing. In that sense, the image holds both pride and insecurity at once.
While the form may read as strong or desirable, the piece is rooted in something more vulnerable - a moment of trying to feel good, to look a certain way, and to meet an internalized standard. It reflects the quiet pressure to present a version of ourselves that feels acceptable, even when it doesn’t fully align with how we see ourselves.
For me, “Flex” is about visibility and self-perception. It’s a personal moment, but one that I believe many can relate to - particularly within spaces where appearance can feel closely tied to worth.
