SOFT GRIP

acrylic on canvas

31.25” W x 47” H

2025

“Soft Grip” is a study of a single body part - the hand. Centered on a stark white background, the composition isolates the form, allowing its softness and precision to take full focus. The pose is intentional: delicate, controlled, and almost too perfect, with a slightly stylized quality that borders on the unreal.

At its core, this piece explores my relationship with perfectionism. The hand embodies qualities I’ve often chased elegance, control, balance, and a sense of flawlessness. On the surface, these traits can appear desirable, even admirable. But beneath that softness is tension, a quiet pressure to hold everything together, to maintain control at all times.

The title “Soft Grip” reflects that contradiction. What appears gentle is, in reality, tightly held. For me, this work represents a moment of awareness - recognizing how that need for perfection can become restrictive.

This piece is a personal shift. A small but meaningful step toward letting go, allowing things to exist as they are, and learning to create - and live - with more openness and less control.
